CONFIRMED:

C: The C-Class sedan was all new for 2008; 2009 models models get pelvic airbags (a second side airbag mounted in the seat-bottom cushion) for front passengers and two new interior color schemes. Sport models can now be had with walnut trim. The navigation system gets a 40 GB hard drive with more space for music and integrated Zagat Restaurant Survey. C300 Luxury models get a softer suspension.

CL: The CL550 now gets 4MATIC all-wheel-drive as standard. A new optional Parking Guidance system identifies parallel parking spaces and displays steering directions, and a blind spot warning system is also on offer. Gear shift buttons on the steering wheel are replaced by paddles.

CLK: Heated seats and 6-disc changer are now standard. A new limited Grand Edition (500 coupes and 500 convertibles to be produced) will feature 18" alloy wheels and "Tobacco Brown" (eew) interior with beige stitching; coupes will get silver paint with aluminum interior trim while convertibles will get white paint with dark wood trim.

CLS: Mercedes' "four-door coupe" gets updated styling inside and out, included larger side mirrors. A navigation system is now standard.

E: 4MATIC all-wheel-drive is now available as a no-cost option on sedans. Sport models get the AMG Sport Package as standard, and the stereo has been updated. An all-new E-Class is expected to debut late in 2009 as a 2010 model.

G: Germany's answer to the Hummer is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The G gets a new grille, updated interior with climate-controlled front seats, and a new stereo/navigation head unit. The G500 is replaced by the G550, which gets a 382 hp 5.5 liter V8. The G500 AMG gets a power boost to 500 hp.

GL: The GL320 CDI diesel is replaced by the cleaner GL320 BLUETEC, and the GL550 gets standard keyless ignition. The stereo/nav system gets an upgraded interface with optional HD radio and SIRIUS real-time traffic. A rear-seat DVD player is optional, and all GLs get the PRE-SAFE system, which tightens the airbags, closes the sunroof and repositions the seats if it detects an imminent crash.

GLK (2010): Mercedes' new mini-CUV will go head-to-head against vehicles like the BMW X3 and Audi's upcoming Q5.

M: Styling is updated inside and out, including new wheels and an optional rear-seat DVD player. Cleaner M320 BLUETEC diesel replaces the M320 CDI diesel, and PRE-SAFE is now standard.

R: R320 BLUETEC diesel replaces the R320 CDI diesel. A suroof is now standard, as is the PRE-SAFE system. HD radio, SIRIUS real-time traffic, rear-seat DVD player and Class II trailer hitch are now optional.

S: The S550 gets last year's Premium 1 Package and wood/leather steering wheel as standard. A new optional Parking Guidance system identifies parallel parking spaces and shows steering directions. Also optional: a blind spot warning system. Steering-wheel-mounted paddles replace the old shifter buttons.

SL: Mercedes' big two-seat retractable-hardtop roadster gets updated styling, standard glass roof, parking assist system, and Airscarf, which blows warm air on the back of the passenger's neck (very romantic, if you ask me). The V12-powered SL65 AMG is joined by the SL63 AMG, which is powered by a 518 hp version of AMG's 6.2 liter V8 backed by the new Multi Clutch Transmission (Mercedes' usual 7-speed automatic with an electronically-controlled clutch in place of the usual torque converter). Also joining the lineup: The SL65 AMG Black Series, a lightweight version of the SL65 AMG with a more powerful (670 hp) twin-turbo V12.
SLK: Mercedes' small retractable-hardtop roadster gets a mid-cycle refresh with updated exterior and interior styling. But the biggest news is the mid-line SLK350, which gets bumped up to an even 300 horsepower; it's bookended by the SLK300 and the SLK55 AMG.
