CONFIRMED:

4RUNNER: A new "Trail Edition" package features traction control, locking rear differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, unique 16" wheels, waterproof seat fabric, black tubular roof rails and side steps, and a detachable TomTom personal navigation system.

AVALON: New standard equipment for 2009 includes electronic stability control, emergency braking assist, active headrests (which can help reduce the chances of whiplash in a rear-end crash) for the driver and front passenger, and standard satellite-radio prewiring for the stereo.

CAMRY: The base-model Camry CE loses its letters; it's now just called the Camry. Otherwise, the Camry is unchanged.

CAMRY SOLARA: Discontinued.

COROLLA: The Corolla is all-new for 2009, making it the tenth generation of this car. The conservative styling job is an update of the old car's shape with cues from the smaller Yaris. The model lineup is similar to the 9th-gen Corolla, with Standard, LE, XLE and S grades, all powered by a 132 horsepower 1.8 liter engine. 2009 also sees the return of the XRS model, now with a big 2.4 liter engine that puts out 158 horsepower.
FJ CRUISER: The FJ gets a serious safety upgrade with standard roll-sensing side curtain airbags, active front-seat headrests, and a cut-off switch for the electronic stability control system. The Convenience Package now includes an auto-dimming rear view mirror and a much-needed backup camera.

HIGHLANDER: A four-cylinder engine is now available on base-model two-wheel-drive Highlanders. The engine is a 2.7 liter unit that produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque; it comes with a six-speed automatic transmission.

LAND CRUISER: Side and rear windows get deep-tinted "privacy" glass.

MATRIX: The all-new 2009 Matrix mini-wagon is available in Standard, S and XRS models. Base and S share a 1.8 liter engine; the S will offer optional all-wheel-drive. The hot-rod XRS makes its triumphant return with a 2.4 liter engine that turns out 158 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque.
PRIUS: No changes.

RAV4: Outside the RAV4 gets updated front and rear styling; under the hood the 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine has been replaced by a 2.5 liter unit that produces more power and gets better gas mileage. All models get new seat fabric, active front headrests and an anti-theft immobilizer, and Limited models get a proximity key. New options include satellite radio and, for Sport and Limited models, a backup camera and "low-cost" navigation system. A new Sport Appearance Package, offered on 4WD V6 models, gets color-keyed body trim and run-flat tires, eliminating the externally-mounted spare.

SEQUOIA: The Sequoia now offers an E85-capable flex-fuel version of the 5.7 liter V8, but only in non-California-emissions states. A new Sport Appearance Package, available on 5.7 liter SR5 models, adds 20" alloy wheels, power driver's seat, black three-row cloth interior, and body-color exterior trim.

SIENNA: Toyota's minivan gets new optional 17" wheels and revised option packages for the LE model.

TACOMA: Electronic stability control, front-seat-mounted side airbags and side-curtain airbags are now standard, and Access Cab and Double Cab models get active front headrests. The traditional limited-slip differential has been replaced by a traction-control system; TRD models get a lockable rear diff. Grille, headlight trim, taillights and interior trim have been updated. Double Cab and Access Cab models get an optional backup camera, while the Access Cab gets standard power windows and door locks and a redesigned rear seat.

TUNDRA: 5.7 liter 4x4 models now offer an E85-capable flex-fuel engine in select areas of the country, and SR5 models are available with a bench front seat. The new TRD Rock Warrior package gets an off-road suspension, unique wheels, and black or white paint; the TRD Sport gets monochrome black or red paint and unique wheels.

VENZA: Toyota is labeling the Venza as a car, but it's more of a car-like crossover, with car-like ride and handling but decidedly SUV-like room.
YARIS: A new 5-door body style (photo) (new to the US, that is; it's been available in other markets since 2007) joins the 3-door hatchback and 4-door sedan. The 5-door is priced $1,000 higher than the Yaris 3-door and $40 more than the Yaris sedan. All Yarises (Yarii?) get antilock brakes, front-seat-mounted side airbags, and side curtain airbags as standard equipment.

UNNAMED SPORTS COUPE: Toyota has confirmed plans to develop a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe in conjunction with Subaru. The current plan has the Subaru version going on sale in 2010, with the Toyota version following in 2011.

RUMORED:

PRIUS: The third-generation Prius is expected in the next year or two. Look for more power and a notable increase in fuel economy.
